Telecommunications

Norman Gillan has been working in the telecommunications sector since 2000. With in-depth experience of the evolving permitted development regimes across the UK, Gillan Consulting is well positioned to advise on the planning process, from the design of apparatus to application/notification type and can undertake any statutory and non-statutory planning submissions required. We can undertake stakeholder consultation in line with the Industry Ten Commitments and the Code of Best Practice, from standard LPA consultation to drop-in sessions and stakeholder meetings.

Having been involved in both the drafting of new legislation and planning policy formulation, we understand the communications planning regime from the inside-out and can ensure the best chance of success for your project. We are always keen to look for pragmatic solutions, despite the often complex nature of the planning system.

Recent projects include the successful rollout of the Home Office’s SMART Metering Network across Scotland for Arqiva, site identification and planning advice for the Department of Media Culture and Sport’s (DCMS) Mobile Infrastructure Project for Arqiva, working closely with the Wireless Infrastructure Group in their delivery of new sites for CTIL across the more rural parts of the UK and specialist planning advice for both MBNL and CTIL.

Current work includes taking the planning lead for EE in delivering their new sites for the new 4G Emergency Services Network (ESN) across the UK and the strategic approach for the upcoming delivery of 5G. We are also involved in the Scottish Government’s ongoing 4G Infill project providing planning and acquisition input to proposed coverage locations across Scotland and an innovative 5G Rural project on the Orkney Islands.

We also provide ongoing advice and support to a number of specialist telecommunications consultancies across the UK.
